A PLAY WITH NO AUDIENCE

My love played the stage of your heart but you didn’t clap
It gave flowers but you didn’t water
My love sung songs but they were not heard
I played a play with no audience

For love in my heart for thee was so great, but it went unheralded
What act could I bestow upon thee that would get your attention
I concluded that my heart song was one that had no ear to hear
This play that I conducted was one that would not be seen

Love such an irony, it can make the happiest of souls, or plug you to the depths of despair
Passion was in my play, every act noted it, but alas none was felt
Such a play of the heart, such a cry to be understood, but no one filled the seats
All I needed was one soul, one soul to give me her heart
But she would not attend the play, love was lost

So I send my play on the road, who will attend
I such a hopeless romantic, will one understand my intent
In all the world Lord let there be one, let not my heart die heavy
Let the words and deeds of my heart gain an audience
Let just one seat be filled at my play of life
Need I play the act alone; let this not be my epitaph

In this vast stage we call our world, let my heart have one merry act
One act in which my lead lady has love in her heart
Love that is wine for my soul, and bread for my spirit
Let not the curtain of life fall on my play, and there be no audience
This is my plea, my prayer unto thee my director
End of act, final curtain call
