When I see my black brothers and sisters today, I think about Martin Luther King saying; "I have a dream." His dream
was the same dream that our Lord died for, that man might be
free. For Doctor King said one day we would be able to say
the words of the old negro spiritual; "Free at last, free at
last, thank God almighty I'm free at last."
Well more than twenty years later we have a whole lot of
those freedoms, Martin Luther King lost his life for. We can
vote, live in any neighborhood we can afford, go to white
schools, get good educations and jobs, shop and eat where we
want, and even run for the highest office in the land. I
wonder what he would think about his dream, if he was to walk
down the street of black a neighborhood. I wonder what would
he think as he went past the crack house, as eleven and
twelve year olds watch out for the police, or yell out
"rock".
What would he think as he walkes down the street and
sees black girls, and young women selling their bodies; not
to put food on the table, but to keep their pipes full of
rocks. What would he think about the dream as he saw the
Crips, and Bloods recruiting young boys to fight, and sell
drugs for them. Is this the promise land, God showed him on
the Mountain Top. I think he would probably shake his head
as he walked through the nightmare, his dream had become.
Why has the dream turned to a nightmare? The reason is
sin!! Black people have turned away from serving God, and
turned to serving idols (money, self, and drugs); these have
become God's unto them. I am addressing this to the black
man, because God has given me to cry out to my people, to
turn from their sin, and back to him. Although Martin Luther
King was a great man, and a great leader, he did not set us
free. God is the one that raised Doctor King, up to lead the
black man. It wasn't Abraham Lincoln that freed us from
slavery but it was God. The bible lets us know the heart of
the king is in God's hand, and he can turn it anyway he
pleases. It is God's son, Jesus Christ that can free you
from the worst form of slavery, sin. For the bible declares
in Matt 20:28: "Even as the Son of man came not to be
ministered unto, but to minister, and to give his life a
ransom for many." Then in St. John 8:36 says: "If the Son
therefore shall make you free, ye shall be free indeed."
In the 32nd verse of the same book of St. John it says: "And
ye shall know the truth, and the truth shall make you free."
The bible lets us know that Jesus went to his own
(speaking of the Jews), and they knew him not. In the book
of Matt 23:37-39 Jesus said this to the Jews: "O Jerusalem,
Jerusalem thou that killest the prophets, and stonest them
which are sent unto thee, how often would I have gathered thy
children together, even as a hen gathereth her chickens under
her wings, and ye would not! Behold, your house is left unto
you desolate. For I say unto you, Ye shall not see me
henceforth, till ye shall say, Blessed is he that cometh in
the name of the Lord." If we look at the Jews of the bible,
we see that God favored them very much. When they were in
slavery in Egypt, God made Pharaoh let them go. After God
blessed them to come out of slavery, they forgot him. After
they turned from God, they begin to commit all kinds of sin.
Black people have a history very similar to that of the
Jews of the bible. God also delivered us out of slavery, but
we have allowed ourselves to be put in bondage again. This
time we can't blame the white man, but it is our own fault.
Because the bondage we are in is the result of sin. Some
may not really understand what sin is. Sin is the rejection
of God, and his word. It is when we exalt our will, over
God's will for our lives. The bible declares: "Know ye not,
that to whom ye yield yourselves servants to obey, his
servants ye are to whom ye obey; whether of sin unto death,
or of obedience unto righteousness" (Rms 6:16). So we can
see if we want to be of God we must yield ourselves
completely to him.
When we sin and disregard God we are being rebellious,
look at what the bible says about this. "hear, O heavens,
and give ear, O earth: for the LORD hath spoken, I have
nourished and brought up children, and they have rebelled
against me. The ox knoweth his owner, and the ass his
master's crib: but Israel (this can be you too if you are
rebelling against God) doth not know, my people doth not
consider. Ah sinful nation, a people laden with iniquity, a
seed of evildoers, children that are corrupters: they have
forsaken the LORD, they have provoked the Holy One of Israel
unto anger, they are gone away backward" (Ish 1:2-4). Now
all this may sound very bleak, and very downing, but I want
to wake you up. I would like you to see that the real
problem isn't the white man, but sin. We must realize we can
be, and have anything we set our minds to. But if we really
want to make it, and live above circumstances, we must obey
God. The bible lets us know, it is not profit to gain the
whole world (riches), and lose our souls (going to hell), see
Matt 16:26.
My brothers and sisters lets turn back to the dream,
lets turn back to God, before it is too late. The only way
we as a people will get to the mountain top is with God.
Selling drugs, prostitution, and gangs will only destroy us
as a people. Lets quit worrying about what the white man is
doing, and what he has. God has everything, he has riches
that cannot be counted, then in the end he offers us a
heavenly home. Listen to what the bible tells us in Ish
1:16-19: "Wash you, make you clean: put away the evil of your
doings from before mine eyes; cease to do evil; Learn to do
well; seek judgment, relieve the oppressed, judge the
fatherless, plead for the widow. Come now, and let us reason
together, saith the LORD: though your sins be as scarlet,
they shall be as white as snow; though they be red like
crimson, they shall be as wool. If ye be willing and
obedient, ye shall eat the good of the land."
God is standing and has his hands outstretched to you.
The question is will you turn from your way, and accept his
way. Open up your heart today and let him in. Let God make
you all you can be. After you have done all you want to do
in this world you will still be lacking. The only way to be
complete, and see the dream fulfilled is thru Jesus the
savior of the world. We as black people are living in a sick
land. There is drugs, crime, and poverty all around us, but
listen to what God is saying: "If my people, which are called
by my name, shall humble themselves, and pray, and seek my
face, and turn from their wicked ways; then will I hear from
heaven, and will forgive their sin, and will heal their land"
(II Chron 7:14). So there is hope, if we wake-up out of our
sleep. If we start to pray again, and turn our hearts back
to God. The same God that delivered us out of slavery, can
once again restore the dream, and give us a glorious vision
for the future+++++++_
