FRUITS
OF THE SPIRIT
LESSON SCRIPTURES: GALATIANS 5:22-26 .
When God saves us he prepares our spirits to receive seeds
of him that we might bear fruit. If we be led of his spirit this
fruit should be manifested in our life. In the book of Galatians
it tells us of this fruit, which is the fruit of the spirit.
The first fruit is love, we know love is a good and important
fruit, because the word tells us that God is love ( I John 4:16).
So we must be filled with love, not just for church members, our
family, and friends but for everyone.
Joy is another fruit that we should have. This fruit is so need
because the bible tells us that the joy of the Lord is our strength.
We see that joy helps strengthen our walk with God. God wants
his people to be happy and lively, not always down and out. Matthew
5:12 tells us, “Rejoice, and be exceeding glad: for great
is your reward in heaven: for so persecuted they the prophets
which were before you.”
Peace is another fruit of the spirit. God has declared in his
word, “Thou wilt keep him in perfect peace, whose mind is
stayed on thee: because he trusted in thee.” So if we keep
our mind focused on God he will give us peace. To have the peace
of God we must walk in the spirit. In Romans 8:6 the bible says,
“For to be carnally minded is death; but to be spiritually
minded is life and peace.”
The next fruit is long-suffering, or to have patience. The bible
tells us to let patience possess your soul (Lk 21:19). The bible
also tells us to run with patience the race set before us (Heb
12:1) .
Next is gentleness, God does not want his people to be mean people.
He wants us to be gentle, pleasant people.
Another fruit is goodness, simply God want us to be good, kind,
to show forth his goodness. To do things that are right not to
be deceitful. To be a light, shining forth for Christ. Psalms
107:9 declares, “For he satisfieth the longing soul, and
filleth the hungry soul with goodness.”
Faith is our next fruit, the bible is full of words on faith.
This is a very important fruit for the believer. For without faith
it is impossible to please him ( Heb 11:6). We can’t overcome
without faith in God, we must believe God can do all things but
fail. Faith comes by the hearing of God’s word ( Rom 10:17).
Meekness is another fruit of the spirit. Meekness is to be humble,
not lifted up in pride and arrogance. We need to have the mind
of Christ, the bible tells us he sought not to be great. “But
made himself of no reputation, and took upon him the form of a
servant, and was made in the likeness of men.” Phil 2:7.
So we see that Christ was meek and lowly.
Temperance is the last fruit, to be self-restrained, or hold yourself
together. We need the right amount of everything of God to hold
ourselves together. We need the right amount of everything of
God to hold ourselves together. Steel is heat treated to a certain
temperature to make it strong. Christians need to go through the
fire of God, that we might become strong in him. Lets keep our
lives fertile unto God, that he might bring forth fruit in us.
