Why?

I wish I knew why my brothers and sisters are killing one another
Why they rob, steal, and destroy one another with drugs
Some say it is the white mans fault, some say they are just trying to survive
But if it is the white mans fault why are we so angry, and mistrustful of one another
What made us this way, how did this awful thing happen

What happen to the causes our forefathers died for, where is the freedom
Why have we enslaved our own selves, why have we accepted a lie
Why have we let someone tell us this is the way we should be, that we should hate

Why have we come so far, endured so much, just to turn on our brothers and sisters
What would Harriet say, what would Sojourn think, would Malcolm use these means
Is this what Martin dreamed, is this what he died for, would he be pleased
Why have we come to this, what happen along the way, my brothers, my sisters
Can anyone tell me, can anyone make me understand, is this the way it should be

Why, my soul cries out Lord, my eyes are heavy with tears
Tears for my murdered brothers and sisters, that died at the hands of their own
Not by the rope of the Klan, not from the whip of slavery, but their own tribe
What kind of thing is this, why has this calamity over taken us
Can not we see as a people what we are doing, are we blind
Will we continue to walk in ignorance, will we destroy ourselves
Will our end be worse than our beginning

Why is there no love in our neighborhoods
Why is there no concern for our brothers and sisters
Why can’t we stop the madness, the killing, the drugs
Where will it end, when will our children be safe
Why is red, why is blue worth more than black

Somewhere along the way we lost sight, we lost hope
We forgot where we came from, and where we need to go
We stop trusting God, stop loving one another
My only question, what I long to know is why?

PASSION IMAGINED

Lovely woman, sensual woman, woman of desire and passion
From whence has thou cometh, like a flame from some distance fire
A fire that has kindled my hope for passion once again.

Your lovely voice and reflections of beauty are making my heart dance with anticipation
How our paths have crossed is making my see the wonder of God
I feel you have the radiance of his majesty, the wisdom of his word
Your beauty shines both outward, and inward to the essence of your soul

God has blessed you with the passion of life, love, and compassion
I am both moved and honored that I have come into your presence
Such a beautiful soul, such a light of wisdom, and knowledge
I can feel your passion in every word you speak, in every breath you take

Such passion makes me imagine what the possibilities are
How far and how deep does this passion go
I have searched both near and far for a soul full of passion
I see in you a soul on fire for God full of love
A soul full of hope, adventure, and sensual desire

Passion imagined, could your passion ignite my imagination, wonders to be explored
Are you the lady of my desire, or just a passing ship that happened by on the sea of life
Will time tell, will destiny tell, or will God prevail
Passion imagined, love desired, or reality unveiled
Such are the questions of life, God’s mysteries revealed

Whatever is the answer I want to embrace this passion imagined
To learn its essence, the source of its fire, and see where it leads
For all paths lead to a journey and all roads beg to be traveled
Only God can lead one to the right path of ones life, love and destiny

My Children

My children they make me laugh, smile, and sometimes even, cry
I love each, and every one of them, let me tell you the reason why
To me they are the most precious gifts God has given me
My life would be incomplete if one of them I could not see
To some all the fuss children create my seem a bit much
But to me I don’t think of it as such To me each one is a work of art that gives me rush

I pray each day that God gives me the strength, the wisdom
To show them the right way to live, and the way into his kingdom
They are so delicate, so sensitive, and for sure they want to be heard from
They march, each one to their own drum

This season as I think of my Children, and my love for them
I think of the Heavenly Father, his son sent him
To earth for us, and all our children
Don't you think for this, with love we should fill them?

The Census

Well its time to step up and be counted. This year's census is one of the most important one to us as black people. With all that is happening with us as far as affirmative action. We cannot afford to be underrepresented in this year census.

One thing that worries me is on the long form, which I myself had to take. It is mailed out to one out of every six Americans. There are two questions on there, one is about race, and the other one is about your ethnic heritage. The one about race gives you the option of a white box if you are white. Then if you are black, the box for that says Black, African American, and Negro.

Then there is a host of boxes for other races, such as Indian, Asian, and so on. Then several questions later they ask you the ethnic questions. This is where it becomes confusing, because if you are like me, you have a little bit of other things mixed in. I have a lot of Indian. But for this question I put African American, I think this is the one choice they give you If you are black. Even though I have the Indian mix, I pick the African American box. I wanted to make sure no matter what I counted as black.

This is very important to check both of these boxed the same way, for there is no mistake. If you have something else in you, as far as this census go it is not going to help you if you are considered black. I am considered black no matter what I have in me. So I want to make sure I get counted as black. My kids are black and live in a black neighborhood just as I do. So I want them to be able to get all the benefits of being counted as black.

They're federal dollars at stack for community projects, hospitals, flood relief, and the list goes on, and on. We as a people must not take this lightly, or for granted. It is a very personal form, it ask a lot of personal questions. But it is important for us as race of people to get counted. To use the power of numbers. So if you are black don't come up short. Fill out the census and be counted. Remember minorities are the fast growing majority in America today.

Black Man

A black man, a black man, a strong man
A black man, a black man, a proud man
A black man, a black man, a misunderstood man
A black man, a black man , an unemployed man

A black man, brought to this country by force
A black man, made to work, given no choice
A black man, freedom he couldn't have
A black man, another man made he rich

A black man, free today they say
A black man, look how far we come they say
A black man, from the cotton field
A black man, to the ghetto streets
A black man, how far we come

A black man, this country made it strong
A black man, blood, sweat, and tears
A black man, of thee I sing

A black man, how long shall he wait
A black man, how patient should he be
A black man, when will he ever get his due

A black man, being black has made him strong
A black man, being black has made his mind keen
A black man, being black has made him more determined

A black man, my brothers give not up hope
A black man, teach our children to be proud
A black man, teach them to respect themselves
A black man, teach them to be black, strong and proud

A Glorious Work in GOD

                                                                    Art by Hulis Mavruk

You are a glorious work in God
When you were made it was all good
And on the day of your salvation the angels jammed

God himself smiles down on you
Your name is declared in the heavens as God’s child
Your have privileges to drop word with King Jesus
You have word over demons, and the devil has to flee

As long as you are under the blood, you are dope
You have a new sec, and he is a real blood
Number one O-G name Jesus
He is your Lord, can’t make the sec without him

No devil, nor demon can survive on your turf
You be bad, so throw up your sign
You be taking no mess, because you dope, and holy blessed

In Your Eyes

In your eyes I see the loveliness that you really are
You have tried to hide it, but it still shines through
In the depths of those eyes, I can see love, compassion, and strength

I can see the love of a beautiful, passionate, black woman
I can see that there is much compassion

Then there is the strength that makes you the Nubian Queen that you are

In your eyes I can see inner, and outer beauty
I can see a desire for someone to know more than just your beauty
For someone to see the dept of your soul, and the intellect of your mind
I see the desire you have to be taken as a whole lady, not just as pretty woman
All that you are is in the essence of what shines through your eyes

You can be so seductive, but you also desire to be seduced
The man that takes your heart must be all so gentle
Because while you are so very strong, your heart is very gentle
Very carefully have you guarded it, but you have a desire for it to be touched
All these things I can see in your eyes, your beautiful eyes

Eyes that can set a mans heart on fire, eyes that hold so much passion, and delight
Such a lovely woman that you are, even when you are striving to be plan
Your beauty, your sexxiness, and passion can not be hid
It stands out so strongly, even when you are not aware
It is your essence; it is your being
It is part of the gift that God himself has bestowed upon you

I am so glad that I have met such a woman
Not just another pretty face, without any substance

But a woman that is a delight to behold, to the eye, and mind
You have all the essence of a Nubian Queen
I look upon you in awe, that God has bestowed such essence on you

Be proud lovely sister, be gracious unto God for all that he has given you
Continue to wear your crown of loveliness, and beauty with pride
Let all that you are shine through your soul
Time has been kind to your radiance
Stay strong, stay beautiful, and keep the glow of your essence
